Next Gen Shoppers Look Down, Not Up

17 Mar Next Gen Shoppers Look Down, Not Up

When you go to the Mall, where do you look? Are you pausing at store windows to examine displays, hunting for a mall directory to find a particular retailer, or making a beeline for the nearest coffee shop?

Chances are, especially if you’re a Millennial, you’ll be looking down at your smartphone’s screen, hunting for deals on your shopping app.

A recent trip to the Capitola Mall, one of partner Macerich’s flagship locations, shows the heads-down trend in full swing as a younger shopper, glued to her screen, glides by shops and window displays.

Macerich, which recently launched version 2.0 of its shopping App with Retailigence-powered search, is taking advantage of on-trend Mall behavior by making it simple for shoppers to find exactly what they want at mall retailers with product and availability information that matches their mobile searches.

The Capitola Mall app, for example, is available on the iTunes store and on Google Play, providing shoppers with a product search and mobile concierge service that enables visitors to browse by category or search for specific products with detailed information, map location and phone number.

Macerich, which touts the app as ‘your digital shopping center companion’, offers similar apps for all its mall properties including Tyson’s Corner, VA, Scottsdale Fashion Square, AZ, The Village at Corte Madera, CA and Capitola  Mall, CA, in addition to other locations.
